Tomorrow is a great day to support your local CD shop
... because Bleeding Through's new self titled album is out. If it is anything like their live show in Leeds a couple of months ago then it will be out of this world. For those of you needing convincing, the whole thing is also up for streaming via their MySpace page.
AND the amazing and as of today Download confirmed (hell yeah!) Cancer Bats today release their "Bears, Mayors, Scraps and Bones", another sort of self titled album seeing as the name is meant to represent the four band members. If you're waiting for your student loan, salary, benefits or you're just laying low on the cash splash in general then do check out Spotify where the it is up for streaming. If you liked "Darkness" live in Roskilde and later their crazy good cover of Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" then you're in for a treat.

Time travel with Option Paralysis
What better way of spending a long day of travelling than finally taking the time to properly listen to The Dillinger Escape Plans latest release Option Paralysis. As it turns out, there hardly is one.
Greg Puciato may claim we’re experiencing a cultural depression (Close Up # 119) but him and his band mates sure have loaded Option Paralysis with explosives ready to blow your mind out of those blues over and over again.
“Gold Teeth On A Bum”, “Widower” and “Chine Whispers” are the obvious singles, “Widower” being a jazzy fusion taking musical possibilities to outer space, but “I Wouldn’t If You Didn’t” is the one that really does it for me. Pure bliss.
If you haven’t already then go buy The Dillinger Escape Plans new album now, it is the future.
Speaking of new music, and seeing as it is our great passion here at Nordic Flames, check out The Ocean on MySpace, they have uploaded some new and very promising material. www.myspace.com/theoceancollective

Isn’t it mind gobbling to think that there is still so much to go this year, so many more releases to come? Releases which may well and probably will top what The Dillinger Escape Plan has created, for example.
It may be pissing it down outside and the summer may feel very far away, but hey, life is good.

Friska Viljor at Strand
Swedish Popaganda club is celebrating easter, "Påsken", all weekend long at Hornstulls Strand. Yesterday whilst beer was expensive as ever, man size chicken rocked it out on the old school hip hop floor and Friska Viljor played a fantastic live set.
It was the first time I saw the band from Stockholm but not the first time I heard about them. In Germany their fanbase is huge, the band has even written songs about it's love for the place, and my housemates in Berlin last year were surprised to hear I did not know of the band. Either way, last night they quite frankly blew me away.
A friend and I came to the conclusion that if you mixed Frans Ferdinand's energy and tie suits, Johnossi's harder rock aspects and sound, Soundtrack Of Our Lives' brilliant live qualitites (and beards) with a tiny hint of Mika's high pitched voice you might find something similar to Friska Viljor. Still, this was so much better than that combination could ever be.
So do check these guys out, it's about time they get some recognition outside of Germany.

Rumours of Refused return
Legendary Swedish hardcore rockers Refused yesterday updated their website with the words "coming soon", something which has sparked the rumours that the band may be reforming. Online speculations on Twitter, news pages and blogs have been running wild but the exciting news are yet to be confirmed.

Crashdïet heart Crashdïet
Finally back in the cold and (still!) snowy place that is the capital of Sweden, I on Friday despite my constant state of snot filled drowsiness took my girls out for a night of sushi and sleaze. The vegetarian version of the Japanese speciality was full of taste, the glam rock not so much.
Rocks at Mariatorget is a classic among Stockholm rocker water holes and the fact that the arrogant bouncers are bound to make you wait for ages even when the place has only just opened and is as empty as my Easter egg is part of it’s tradition.
This Friday however the queue was short, we made it in just in time for Happy Hour and even my non rocker girlfriends seemed to enjoy themselves.
We sat next to the video wall in the boiling metal bar part of the underground establishment, not far from the DJ booth where members from Swedish glam rock band Crashdïet were spinning tracks. Everything from Europe to ska punk made it out of the speakers and we were having a jolly good time until suddenly the music was toned down, the air filled with suspense and everyone was facing our way.
It was time for the video premiere of Crashdïet’s new single “Generation Wild” and the band was in the building. With fans surrounding them, new frontman Simon Cruz and his band mates were rocking out as if there was no tomorrow, looking very cool as they did so. The members of Crashdïet were clearly loving their own video, shame it’s such a disaster.
Not that that stopped the club from showing it on muted repeat for the rest of the evening whilst fans kept stalking the singer with the star tattoo.
Unfortunately the video is too new to have made it onto YouTube yet but have no fear, here’s an anything but neutral snapshot summary for you:
Smoke on asphalt, underground sewers, hairspray, cool band performance, a white net dress over big boobs, hairspray, red lipstick, a tied up singer, a blood splattering drill, hairspray and a suit clad woman in a white room removing something from her face.
I bet you can't wait. In the meantime this is what the otherwise alright song sounds like.

Rock n Roll is dead, Nordic Flames is not.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are back.
A year on Mastodon have released the album of 2009, Obama has managed to get his healthcare bill passed by the American congress and the Black Spiders are out on tour with Airbourne again. This time around they even have their own headline gig booked in at The University of Sheffield on April 24th. Do not miss that.
In other news we are counting down towards the album release of Cancer Bats' "Bears, Mayors, Scraps and Bones" (April 13th), gigs with Russian Circles and Rolo Tomassi and tonight's The Rock Show with Daniel P. Carter. Midnight til 2, tune in.
Oh and Phil Demmel from epic rock God band Machine Head emailed me yesterday, said that this was an awesome read. Check it out.
